Sudan: Lord's Resistance Army preparing to launch attacks in Western Equatoria and Western Bahr el Ghazal

Source: Miraya FM - The Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) has confirmed that it suspects the Ugandan rebel group Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) is preparing to launch attacks in Western Equatoria and Western Bahr el Ghazal states during April elections. The Spokesperson of the SPLA, Maj. Gen. Kuol Deim Kuol told Radio Miraya that SPLA is ready to secure the elections and ward off any LRA attacks.

Kuol Deim Kuol accused the Sudan Armed Forces of arming and harboring the LRA, claiming that the LRA leader Joseph Kony is in Darfur. The same claim was made by the Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Saturday.

Kuol Deim Kuol added that the LRA rebels have camps in Kafia Kanji in Southern Darfur and Western Bahr el Ghazal states.

In response, the Sudan Armed Forces denied the presence of the LRA in Darfur. A statement from the Sudan Armed Forces said that any claims about the LRA leader fleeing to Darfur are baseless.
