Azerbaijan: Azerbaijan's ‘delicate mission’ in Israel

PanARMENIAN.Net - On May 6, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov was in Israel to hold talks with the head of American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) Jerusalem Office Director, Wendy Singer. It was a private meeting and was not covered by media. The AIPAC provided no details either. According to informed sources in Jerusalem, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister visited Israel to enlist AIPAC’s support in the U.S. Congress and Senate.

A special envoy of Azerbaijan’s President, Azimov also met with Israel’s Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman and his deputy Danny Ayalon.

Pinchas Avivi, Deputy Director General of the department of Central Europe and Eurasia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told IzRus portal that the meetings focused on bilateral relations and regional policy in Middle East and South Caucasus. Such meetings take place twice a year: Avivi was in Baku in December 2009.

To counterbalance the influential Armenian lobby, Turkey’s Ambassador Namik Tan is also engaged in intensified negotiations with the American Jewish Committee, AIPAC and the Anti-Defamation League.
