Darfur: Indonesia asked to increase police personnel in Darfur

Xinhua reports the Indonesian government was asked to increase its police personnel as members of the United Nations' Force Police Unit (FPU) in Sudan's Darfur. Kompas daily quoted an official as saying on Monday.

The National Police's Head of Public Information Sen. Comm. Zulkarnain Adinegara said that currently Indonesia has 140 members of FPU in Darfur.

"They are separated in two groups, the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) and the United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID). Indonesian officers in UNMIS act as police advisers," said Zulkarnain.

He said that according to several overseas police advisers, performance of Indonesian members of FPU and adviser is outstanding compared to other 13 countries sending their police in the UN's mission.
