Landmines: Angola - almost 400 acres demined

Source: Government of Angola - Almost 400 acres, reserved for the future port of Luanda, were demined from January up to May 26 by the National Reconstruction Office, the head of the National Demining Institute office in Bengo province disclosed today.

Basílio dos Santos told a visiting delegation of the US non-governamental organization "Institute Marshall Legacy" that a total area of 2,400 acres will be demined to build the new port in Barra do Dande commune, northern Bengo province.

He said that 47 sappers of the angolan armed forces had removed 119 ammunitons of various calibres and 5,773 metals during the process which is about to be finished within two years.
