Ahmadinejad hails and jails

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has attended a ceremony Saturday to commemorate national Reporter’s Day. As we all know, Mr Ahmadinejad is a well known supporter of freedom of speech and free media. In fact he goes out of his way to ensure those who express their true opinion, have long term accommodation in well guarded compounds complete with high walls, barbed wire and barred windows.

Perhaps he has his eye on some sort of Nobel prize like Arafat, or maybe throwing his hat (better still - his jacket) in the ring as a candidate for head of the United Nations Human Rights Council, like that other well known supporter of human rights, Colonel Gaddafi, whose terminally ill employees make miraculous recoveries when returned to his kind, loving care.

I wonder if it has occurred to Ahmadinejad that an appropriate way to celebrate Reporters Day, would be to release reporters, dissenters and activists from the living death he and his henchmen have consigned them to.

Then again, if the truth were allowed to be told, it wouldn't be just his jacket he would need to change.
