IRNA -- Five young men were injured, one critically when Indian police opened fire on protesters in Srinagar on Monday. Curfew continued in most parts of the turmoil-hit Kashmir.The one wounded critically in Maisuma area Monday morning is a close relative of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Yasin Malik.
Those injured were rushed to nearby State Hospital where condition of one Yasir Hamid, was stated to be critical.
Yasir, cousin of JKLF leader, has received bullet injury in his lower abdomen. Doctors have described his condition as 'very critical'.
Residents alleged the firing was unprovoked as there were no protests going on any where in the area.
'CRPF men opened fire after a group of youth, playing carom at a street corner, refused to heed their order to move indoors. When they insisted on playing at the spot the infuriated CRPF men opened fire,' said an eyewitness Fayaz Ahmad.
The firing sparked angry protests in the area with people in large numbers taking to streets chanting anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.
Clashes between groups of youth and Indian forces also have broken out in several adjoining areas.
Elsewhere normal life continued to remain crippled as the government reimposed curfew this morning in view of a shutdown called by the Hurriyat Conference.
As many as 64 people have died in the violent Indian crackdown on the pro-independence protesters since June 11.
