Serbia: UN chief meets with Serbian president on Kosovo

FOCUS Information Agency - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday met with Boris Tadic, president of Serbia, and they discussed the situation in Kosovo, particularly on "prospects for dialogue" between Pristina and Belgrade facilitated by the European Union (EU), Xinhua informed.

"In this regard, the secretary-general stressed the importance of constructive engagement by the parties and expressed the readiness of the United Nations to contribute to this effort," said a UN readout issued by Ban's spokesman at the end of the meeting here.

The two discussed a range of issues, including the situation in the wider Western Balkans region, Serbia's participation in the UN peacekeeping operations and the UN Millennium Development Goals ( MDGs), said the UN readout.

Their discussion took place on the sidelines of the High-Level Plenary Meeting for the MDGs, which brought leaders, ministers, and diplomats from all over the world together to confer about progress towards the international development goals. The MDGs are due to be completed by 2015.
