Iran: Ahmadinejad says enemies of Iran and Lebanon,' horrified' by their close relations

Beirut, Oct 13, IRNA – Visiting President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Wednesday that enemies of Iran and Lebanon were horrified by close relations between the two countries.

He made the remark upon his arrival at Beirut's airport where he was welcomed by Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.

'Today is a new day for us,' President Ahmadinejad told the Lebanese Parliament speaker who said, in return, that all Lebanese citizens were eagerly waiting to see the Iranian President.

Berri said that reactions shown by the enemies of the two countries regarding President Ahmadinejad's visit to Lebanon have indicated the importance of the Iranian President's visit to the country.

Recalling a Farsi proverb, President Ahmadinejad said enemy would become a blessing in disguise if God wills.

The Iranian President arrived in Beirut heading a high-ranking delegation and on a two-day visit which is taking place upon an official invitation of his Lebanese counterpart President Michel Suleiman.

The visit is being made within the framework of expansion of political, economic and cultural cooperation with Lebanon.

During his stay in Lebanon, President Ahmadinejad is to meet and confer with the Lebanese president, Prime Minister Saad Hariri, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and several other dignitaries.

Inking several economic agreements and memoranda of understanding in the fields of trade, industry, water and electricity, health, environment and educational and scientific cooperation are among the objectives of the Iranian President’s visit to Lebanon.

The President will also attend a number of public gatherings especially in Southern Lebanon.
