The reformed man

Ever since he was a small boy, Bert had been involved in petty crime. "Couldn't 'elp meself" he explained in an exclusive interview. "Started when, oh when was it, must have been about five I reckon. I saw a Mars Bar in old Mrs. Evans's corner shop, and before I knew it, the ruddy thing was in me pocket."

That set him on the path to a lifetime of taking things from others. Then one day, things changed.

"Like a revelation it was. I woke up and thought to meself 'Bert, this is no sort of a life. No money in it for one thing, not any more.' So I decided to do something about it."

He began going to the library, reading books on law. He was acquainted with one side of the law of course, but not the other. He joined a community college, then went on to study law at university. His efforts were rewarded when he recently landed a position with a firm of top libel lawyers. Bert couldn't be happier. He explained,

"This way I still take money from others - but get to work with a better class of crook"
