Ethiopia: Agreement to make laptops accessible to primary school children signed

African Union and Global Advocacy for One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) signed here on Wednesday an agreement aimed at making laptops accessible to students of primary schools in Ethiopia.

Human Resource, Science and Technology Director with the AU, Vera Brenda Ngossi and Global Advocacy for OLPC Vice President, Mathew Keller signed the agreement.

Vera Brenda Ngossi on the occasion said AU is working to enable children benefit from education supported by ICT and also create conducive education environment.

She said AU is providing the necessary support to Ethiopia to assist the ongoing efforts of the country to meet the MDGs in the education sector.

Mathew Keller on his part said the agreement will help the organization to reach all children attending primary education all over the country.

He said his organization managed to distribute over 5,000 laptops to primary school students in Addis Ababa so far.

According to the Vice President, the Organization will distribute laptops each valued at 198 US dollars, to all primary school students in the country until 2015.

He said the Amharic version of all subjects is downloaded for students up to 6th grade.
