Aides of Madagascar's exiled president say he will return from South Africa on Saturday, defying an order for his arrest.
A court convicted Marc Ravalomanana in absentia to life at hard labor for conspiracy to commit murder, for the deaths of two dozen anti-government protesters in 2009.
Mr. Ravolamanana fled to South Africa after being ousted by opposition leader Andry Rajoelina in March of 2009.
Since Mr. Rajoelina's takeover, the island nation has faced international isolation because it lacked an elected leader.
Madagascar has also struggled to establish a stable government.
Aides say Mr. Ravolomanana's return from exile is aimed at resolving the political stalemate in Madagascar, although he risks being arrested.
