Libya: Iran - when people, where ever in the world, have legitimate demands they should be addressed

Tehran, July 6, IRNA – Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi on Tuesday acknowledged about proposals to solve Libyan crisis.

On the sidelines of ceremony marking the 200th anniversary of Venezuela's independence, held in the Venezuelan embassy in Tehran on Tuesday, Salehi, who was speaking with reporters, answered a question concerning Iran's stance about Libya situation.

He said that we are working on the proposals and if they reach an appropriate position, we will declare them.

He stressed that we intend to gratify Libyan people's demands as well as establishment of tranquility in the country.

To a question that whether Iran intends to recognize opposition council in Libya or not, Salehi said that recognition is not the main issue here, but the basic stance is that when people, where ever in the world, have legitimate demands they should be addressed.

Salehi said that there should be a difference between people's demands and those who intend to take advantage of a critical situation in a country, in Syria majority of people had legitimate demands and President al-Assad promised for these demands and implemented some of it.

He continued that NATO forces in Libya, contradictory to the UN Security Council resolution, are delivering weapons to the opposition forces and are trying to mess up the situation in the country.

The minister said the aim of interference in Libya should be supplying peace and security, while Libya is turning to a ruin.

The NATO forces are killing innocent people in Libya and bombarding infra-structure installations and arming opposition forces.

'For sure, we are not in agreement with such measures: we expected that those claimant for defending human rights, to interfere in Libya so that innocent people are not get killed.'

Concerning prospect of cooperation between Iran and Latin American countries, especially Venezuela, Salehi said that the Tehran-Caracas relations have been deepened in recent years and our trade and industry exchanges' level have reached more than several hundred millions of dollars.

Referring to several projects commissioned by Iran in Venezuela, the minister said that this country has special stance for Iran politically and diplomatically.
