Nigeria: Riots - Trucks of Relief Materials Leave Warehouses

Government of Nigeria

Truckloads of relief materials have been despatched from warehouses of the National Emergency Management agency (NEMA) to some states that had witnessed casualties during the recent violent riots in the Northern part of Nigeria.

The Director General who met with Zonal coordinators of the agency in Abuja today directed officers of Search and Rescue and Relief and Rehabilitation to move swift and ensure that the relief materials reach the victims as soon as possible.

According to him the federal government has also approved free medical services to innocent victims of the crisis in government-established hospital and clinics.

The NEMA has been collaborating with response agencies including the military, the police, civil defence, road safety and fire service since the beginning of the crises in ensuring adequate security of displaced people as well as other innocent Nigerians.

The relief materials that are being released from warehouses of the agencies that are located in each in each of the geopolitical zone in the country include food items, bedding, medications, toiletries and clothing.

Meanwhile a special team from NEMA and other response agencies would embark on the spot assessments of some of the areas worst-hit by the unfortunate incidents.
