I am all for research and fact finding, but there are times when the answer is - and always has been - obvious to one and all. Take today for example -

Money spent on constructive research is money well spent. Money spent on advancing the career of an academic - is money that could have been spent on research that produces actual benefits.
I am sure that if I conducted a government funded, five-years survey, 90 per cent of readers would agree with me!
