I haven't used it for many a year, as most of the surveys that came my way ranged form the sublime to the ridiculous.I am all for research and fact finding, but there are times when the answer is - and always has been - obvious to one and all. Take today for example -
After five years of research, Australian academics have discovered that those who sit at desk jobs are less fit then those employed in physically active occupations.
Money spent on constructive research is money well spent. Money spent on advancing the career of an academic - is money that could have been spent on research that produces actual benefits.
I am sure that if I conducted a government funded, five-years survey, 90 per cent of readers would agree with me!
