Minister of Labour and Social Policy Rasim Ljajic said in Sabac that all refugees and internally displaced persons will get adequate housing before the closure of collective centres in 2012.
Ljajic presented the keys to 12 apartments to families of refugees, internally displaced and vulnerable persons in Sabac and pointed out that this category of population will be provided with decent accommodation before the centres are closed down.
The Minister reiterated that Serbia will continue to insist on the return of refugees and displaced persons to their homes and on the respect of the Sarajevo Declaration.
The €210,000 building with 12 apartments was financed by the EU with €185,000 and the Republic of Slovenia with €25,000, while the City of Sabac gave the land and utility connections.
Deputy Head of Delegation of the EU in Serbia Adriano Martins said that so far apartments for 7,500 refugees and displaced persons have been built.
There are 74,500 refugees and internally displaced persons registered in Serbia, some of whom are still accommodated in 42 collective centres.
In the territory of Sabac there are 1,850 refugees and 372 displaced persons.
