Tehran, Jan 3, IRNA – Iran's Foreign Ministry summoned on Tuesday Canada’s charge de affaires to voice its protest at violation of human rights in Canada.

According to the Information and Press Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, violation of human rights in Canada has prompted a number of UN rapporteurs and NOGs to condemn the issue.

The deputy foreign minister for human rights affairs referred to the letter issued by UN special rapporteur James Anaye and said as indicated in the letter, the status of Canadian indigenous people is regretful to an extent that the international community has expressed its concern about it and for the same reason Iran strongly protests the blatant violation of human rights by the Canadian government.

Indigenous people in Canadian live in absolute poverty and suffer from sanitary and educational shortages, he said adding that the basic rights of these people have been violated by the Canadian government.

The Islamic Republic of Iran calls on the Canadian government to stick to its international commitments on human rights and try to resolve the problems of its indigenous people, he said.
