Sudan: Citizens fed up of repeated attacks

The citizens of villages north of El Geneina, in Borta, Arubi, Bir Kelab and Yelu have complained of being constantly subjected to looting and attacks by insurgents on the main roads between El Geneina and Ardamata and El Geneina and Kulbus.

Leader of the locality Mohamed Ibrahim, said to Radio Dabanga that citizens from villages north of El Geneina have been continously exposed to beatings, looting and robbery at gunpoint by armed men travelling on horseback.

In the last week more than 20 people were reported as targeted whilst returning from local markets.

A man named as Omar Mohamed Haroun was beaten and robbed of 370 Sudanese pounds (SDG). Another man, Abdullah Ismail had 150 SDG stolen at gun point.

Ibrahim said women were repeatedly targeted. They were forced to hand over everything from money and market goods to the clothes and shoes they were wearing.

He called on authorities to provide security for the roads in the area to protect civilians.
