Tehran, June 15, IRNA – Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi in a visit with Afghan President Hamid Karzai in Kabul voiced Tehran's readiness to help construction projects in Afghanistan.
Salehi also submitted the official invitation of President Mahmud Ahmadinejad to Karzai to take part in the upcoming 16th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to be held in Tehran.
Karzai, for his part, said Afghanistan will participate in the NAM summit in the highest level.
The 16th NAM Summit will be held in Tehran, August 26-31.
Salehi traveled to Afghanistan on Thursday (June 14) to attend a one-day conference entitled ‘Future of Afghanistan’ in Kabul.
During the conference in Afghanistan, Salehi elaborated on Iran’s stances vis-à-vis establishment of stability and security in Afghanistan, as well as economic development of that country.
Salehi met with foreign ministers of different countries, including Turkey, Afghanistan, UK and Tajikistan and Chinese deputy foreign minister on Thursday. He discussed issues of mutual interest, as well as regional and international developments with them.
Iran’s foreign minister also conferred with Afghan Foreign Minister Zalmay Rasoul and Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu on Thursday.
