Tabriz, East Azarbaijan, June 23, IRNA – The third International Silk Road Conference opened here on Saturday with participation of several economic attaché and businessmen from 18 countries.
Iran's Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mehdi Ghazanfari will address the gathering.
The two-day event is aimed at introducing the history, culture and customs of Silk Road countries and help promote their tourism and ecotourism.
Creating the motivation to endorse and revive the Silk Road as a major tourism hub is also a main objective of the conference.
Participants will also discuss archeology of Silk Road countries, restoration of their ancient monuments and safeguarding their rich cultural and national traditions.
The 2,000-year-old Silk Road was a trade route linking Asia and Europe through Iran. The 7,000-kilometer-long road extended from the Chinese cities of Luoyang and Xi'an, to Europe via south and central Asian countries.
