JUBA, SOUTH SUDAN — South Sudanese
President Salva Kiir has ordered more than 100 senior military officers
to retire from active military service, and placed them on a reserve
list.
The retired army officers include state governors Taban Deng Gai, of
Unity; Louis Lobong Lojore of Eastern Equatoria; Rizik Hassan Zachariah
of Western Bahr el Ghazal; and Simon Kun Puoc of Upper Nile state.
Kiir did not explain why he relieved the officers of their military duties.
This is the second time this year that the president of South Sudan has
retired senior army officers from active service. In January, Kiir
removed 35 top-level military officers from active service.
