IRNA – Former US ambassador to NATO Robert Hunter said the result of the recent presidential elections in Iran took the White House by surprise.
Stressing the healthy process of elections and polling in Iran and its international significance, he said the US President Barack Obama has to prove his good intentions to Iran’s next president by ordering removal of at least a number of sanctions against Iran.
Talking to IRNA, he also hoped that the US president would send a positive message to Iran at the time when the new Iranian president swears in.
Noting that the policy of imposing sanctions on Iran has been fruitless, he said expanding sanctions after the June 14 presidential elections will send a very negative message to the Iranian nation.
