The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) has responded to violent communal clashes in Myanmar by providing emergency water and hygiene kits to more than 8,000 internally displaced people.
A local dispute between Buddhist and Muslim groups in Mandalay region during March resulted in 44 fatalities and 61 injuries. Wide-spread arson attacks led to more than 1,000 homes being destroyed and more than 12,000 people being displaced.
“What started as a dispute between individuals quickly escalated into a violent conflict between these groups,” said Beryl Hartman, Humanitarian Coordinator for ADRA Australia.
