Tehran, Nov 1, IRNA – Deputy foreign minister and member of Iran’s nuclear negotiating team said that Islamic Republic of Iran is not committed to answer all questions of the IAEA on safeguards agreements.
Abbas Araqchi, in an interview with the Iranian TV on Thursday evening said that a number of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) questions are beyond safeguarda agreements commitments
He added that Iran is not committed to answer all questions, but as we believe in peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program and in removing concerns, we answer all ambiguities of the agency.
Araqchi continued that IAEA controls nuclear activities of member states in the framework of the safeguards agreements
He added that the IAEA is one of the international observer bodies in nuclear issues of the countries and in fact, member states of Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) accept that their nuclear program is peaceful and that the agency supervises their activities.
Deputy FM underlined that Iran and the IAEA have safeguards agreements and Iran is committed to its obligations upon NPT.
Araqchi said that unfortunately in recent years there have been concerns and ambiguities about Iran’s nuclear program in international community, and we are trying to remove these concerns and increase our cooperation with the agency.
The senior diplomat added that upon a new work plan between Iran and the IAEA, we were committed to answer six main questions of the agency, and after answering the questions, the agency confirmed that it has received its answers.
