Tehran, Jan 13, IRNA -- European Union Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton, who is coordinating talks between six world powers and Iran, said on Monday she would visit Tehran in the coming weeks.
It is my intention to visit in the coming weeks, Ashton told a news conference in Kuwait with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Hamad al-Sabah.
Iran and the EU announced on Sunday that a deal between Iran and the six powers, intended to pave the way for a solution to the long standoff over Tehrans nuclear program, will come into force on January 20.
Ashtons visit to Kuwait takes place at a time when the news media had recently reported that she would visit several Persian Gulf littoral states, including UAE and Kuwait.
The European Union information dissemination website in a statement announced that Ashton in her visit will hold talks with high-ranking officials of these countries, including the UAE and Kuwait.
I will have an opportunity to discuss a series of influential issues affecting the bilateral relations and bonds of the European Union with the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) and important regional issues such as Syrian crisis, Middle East peace process and the recent agreement over Irans nuclear issue, the statement quoted Ashton as saying.
Ashton is slated to hold a joint press conference with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al-Nahayan on Tuesday.
